JCI Bauchi City Marks Workers’ Day 2025, Calls for Digital Empowerment in the Workplace

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bauchi City, in partnership with Better Life Restoration Initiative (BERI), commemorated International Workers’ Day on 1st May 2025 with a virtual celebration themed “Empowering Workers for a Sustainable Future in the Digital Age.” The event drew a large number of participants from across Nigeria and beyond, including professionals, students, civil servants, and digital advocates, all united in honoring the resilience and relevance of workers in today’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

In his welcome address, JCI Bauchi City President, Akintunde Tajudeen Taiwo, praised workers’ resilience and highlighted the need for inclusive digital transformation.

“Today, we reaffirm the dignity of labour—and we recognize that in the hands of diligent, passionate individuals, work becomes more than duty; it becomes the driving force of progress and transformation.”

The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Andee Iheme, FNIPR, a renowned communicator and retired public servant. He emphasized the urgent need to digitize Nigeria’s workspaces.

“For the Nigerian workplace to become truly digital, data must be free, laptops should be on every desk, and power must be stable. Too many institutions remain stuck in analog operations,” he stated.

He also called attention to the challenges posed by inflation, lack of infrastructure, and the need for training workers in digital skills. Despite Nigeria’s progress in mobile banking, he warned that most public institutions lag behind.

Special guest JCIN Amb. Adewale Oshinaike, JCI Nigeria EVP (North-East), represented the spirit of young leadership driving innovation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Ogadinma Nkem Ogbonna, Executive Director of BERI, who encouraged continued collaboration for workers’ empowerment.
