Ebola Strikes Again in Congo: 15 Dead as Fresh Outbreak Confirmed

By Taiwo Akintunde The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has confirmed a new outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus, with at least 15 people reported dead and dozens more feared infected. According to the country’s Ministry of Health, the outbreak was detected in Kasai Province, where 28 suspected cases have been recorded. Laboratory tests confirmed the Zaire strain of the virus after a 34-year-old pregnant woman was admitted to hospital on August 20 with a high fever and severe vomiting. She later died of multiple organ failure. Among the fatalities are four health workers, raising fresh concerns about the risk faced by frontline responders. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the number of infections is likely to rise as human-to-human transmission continues.   By Adamu IMAM Bauchi  In a dramatic twist to Bauchi’s anti-corruption drive, the Bauchi State High Court today ordered the immediate remand of the State’s former Accountant-General, Sa’idu Abubakar, in prison custody. The former chief custodian of Bauchi’s finances was arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, and monumental financial infractions allegedly running into billions of naira. This landmark case follows a formal petition lodged by the Bauchi State Government in August 2025, accusing Abubakar and his alleged accomplices of massive embezzlement of public funds and betrayal of public trust.  The matter was swiftly taken up by the Nigeria Police, culminating in today’s court session. The case has been adjourned to 22nd September, 2025 for further hearing. All eyes will now be on the courtroom as one of the state’s most explosive corruption cases unfolds.
